Positive ageing in Mitchell Shire

Mitchell Shire's Positive Ageing Ambassadors have developed a guide for older people in support of positive ageing — developed under the Age-Friendly Communities Project.

Seniors’ newsletter

Every 2 months we send out a newsletter about positive ageing in Mitchell. It includes information on community services, volunteer opportunities and upcoming events.

Seniors fitness classes

Kilmore Leisure Centre and Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre have a number of classes suitable for seniors including:

  • Senior Strength
  • Gymnastic Seniors
  • Heart Smart
  • Cardio Aqua
  • Active Aqua

Yoga is available at Broadford Living and Learning Centre.

Group fitness timetables

Home library services

If you are unable to make it to the public library because of disability, illness or limited mobility, we will bring the library to you. Books can be delivered every two weeks to eligible homes or facilities within our Shire.

Senior tech help sessions

If you would like to learn the basic functions of your mobile phone or tablet, Council run a free Senior Tech Help Session at Seymour Library from 2pm to 3pm, every second Thursday. For more information or to book contact Customer and Library Services on 03 5734 6200.

Senior citizens clubs

Join your local Senior Citizens Club for weekly outings, social activities and lunch.

Senior citizens clubs offer a variety of social, leisure and recreational activities to their members. Activities may include:

  • playing cards
  • bingo
  • line dancing
  • luncheons
  • occasional day trips

There are local clubs in in Broadford, Kilmore, Seymour, Wallan. Most clubs meet on a weekly basis and charge a small weekly and/or annual membership fee.
