School crossings

We employ staff to supervise 21 school crossings across the municipality.

Crossing supervisors are paid to attend the crossing each day before and after school.

Crossings are supervised for approximately 30 minutes with each crossing operating at slightly different times depending on individual requirements. To find out what time your crossing operates phone Council on 03 5734 6200.

Crossing Safety

Supervisors protect children from the risk of misjudging when to cross the road, and help alert cars to their presence.

Drivers need to understand the parking and traffic controls around school crossings that prevent cars from stopping near crossings. This ensures that approaching children can be seen.

It is your responsibility as a driver to park legally around schools.

Become a Crossing Supervisor

From time to time Council advertises School Crossing Supervisor Vacancies. If you would like to become a School Crossing Supervisor in your town, keep an eye on Council employment vacancies.
