Floods 2022

Property clean up

Flood waste disposal

You can drop off flood waste to Seymour Resource Recovery Centre for free.

Emergency Recovery Victoria programs

You can register for Emergency Recovery Victoria's structural assessment and make safe program which includes free structural assessments and hazard removal for damaged or destroyed properties.

The Make Safe Program is for flood-affected structures that are uninsured and deemed repairable through the structural assessment.

The program will remove safety hazards (such as electrical dangers and asbestos) from uninsured eligible flood-affected structures.

Other safety

Asbestos

Floods can cause asbestos to shift or become exposed. Please exercise caution when cleaning up or carrying out any work on flood-damaged properties.

It is not always easy to tell if flood waste contains asbestos by looking at it, but it is present in many houses, particularly those built before 1990. Asbestos can be found in many parts of buildings including cement sheeting, the backing of vinyl floor tiles and tile underlay.

If you are unsure, get it checked by a suitably qualified person before touching it. Never leave asbestos on the nature strip.

Better still, register with the Flood Recovery Hotline for a property assessment and leave it to the experts: 1800 560 760.
