Pets are an important part of the Mitchell community and bring significant health and wellbeing, and social benefits to pet owners.
2017 Mitchell Pet Expo
On Saturday 18 November 2017 Mitchell Shire Council will be conducting its Annual Pet Expo. The Expo will be held at Hadfield Park, Wallan. It will commence at 10am and conclude at 3pm.
The aim of the Pet Expo is to promote businesses, organisations and clubs at one event, incorporating all types of animals as pets, with the main theme being “Responsible Pet Ownership”.
There will be a variety of displays, demonstrations, shows, rides and activities for children, adults and pets. The event will be held on an outdoor park and will allow for undercover displays and entertainment areas. Everyone is encouraged to bring their pets along and enter competitions and participate in different activities. The day celebrates the importance of pets in society, the social benefits to the family and community, and to the young and the elderly.
Applications are now open for stallholders, exhibitors and demonstrators. The Pet Expo Application form can be downloaded below. Applications close 3 November 2017.
Council's Facebook page, Animals of Mitchell Shire, allows the Community Compliance Department the opportunity to celebrate animals and pets in the lives of our community on a daily basis. It is a fantastic way to communicate with the community and provide information as it comes in; to educate, advise or just to make the community laugh.

Desexing Vouchers are available
In certain circumstances Council can assist with the cost of desexing your cat or dog.
If you are a pension or health care card holder, your pet is vaccinated and registered with Council you can apply for a desexing voucher.
The voucher is valid for 1 month from date of issue and can be used at most of the Mitchell Shire Veterinary Clinics. The voucher is worth approximately one third of the cost of desexing to a maximum of $65.
