Health and wellbeing

Mitchell Shire is committed to creating welcoming spaces and communities. Our Health and Wellbeing Plan 2021 – 2025 and Gender Equality Action Plan 2021-2025 have specific actions to promote safe, healthy and inclusive services and communities.

Mitchell hosts a range of events every year to raise awareness and celebrate LGBTIQ+ events and campaigns and delivers services throughout the year to support LGBTIQ+ youth and allies.

Liquorice Allsorts Program

A safe youth space for LGBTIQ+ youth and allies delivered in partnership with Nexus Primary Health at the Broadford Youth Room.

LGBTIQ+ events

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is celebrated on May 17 every year. The day raises awareness against LGBTIQ+ discrimination.

Every year Mitchell Shire Council and partners deliver a range of events and displays as a sign of allyship to show respect for our LGBTIQ+ friends, family, colleagues and community to promote safe and inclusive communities.

Wear it Purple

Wear it Purple is celebrated in late August every year. The day aims to foster safe, supportive and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.

Mitchell Youth Services deliver Wear it Purple events every year. Keep up to date on the Mitchell Youth Facebook page.
