Council services and information

We've made some changes to Council's services and events as part of our response to Coronavirus.

While some of our face-to-face services are closed, rest assured, there are many other ways you can still access Council services. You can contact us by:

Animals

Animal pound and dangerous and wandering animalsStray animals will still be collected. Procedures in place to ensure social distance between residents and staff.
Animal registrationsNew registrations can be completed over the phone 03 5734 6200 or email mitchell@mitchellshire.vic.gov.au. Registration renewals due 10 April. Please phone 03 5734 6200 if you are experiencing financial hardship.
Dog parkOpen. Maintain social distancing.

Building and planning services

Building and planningWallan service desk closed. Inspections and phone service still occurring. Online services available.

Children and Families

ServiceStatus
ImmunisationFree flu vaccines available for under 5s and over 65s only. Paid vaccines via your GP or pharmacy. All other immunisations operating as usual with some extra social distancing measures in place.
KindergartensTerm 2 is operating for essential workers and vulnerable families. All other children have been offered remote and flexible learning options. For Greater Beveridge and Seymour kindergartens, contact the providers directly: Greater Beveridge (beveridge@try.org.au or 03 8545 9500); Seymour (info@kidsfirstaustralia.org.au or 03 9450 0900).
Maternal and child healthTelephone consultation, and short home visits or centre visits of no more than 15 minutes to be conducted. Your Maternal and Child Health nurse will call you on the morning of your appointment and arrange a time to contact you. Breastfeeding clinics will be via the phone. Please call 03 5734 6253 to let the Lactation Consultant know that you want assistance and she will contact you. Sleep and Settling will be via the phone 03 5734 6253. From 9 June: 0-8 week visits in centre, 4 month or older KAS visits in centre available, vulnerable visits, enhanced home visits and AMCHI face to face as needed, new parent groups in person, breastfeeding clinics in centre. Supported playgroups to recommence from term 3.
School crossingsOpen in line with school term.
Youth servicesOnline programming term 2 and some phone and online outreach occurring.

Visitor information centreOpen for Queen's Birthday long weekend, 10am to 3pm. Closed otherwise. Phone and online service operating.

Customer and library services

Customer service centresOpen with limited services. VicRoads license renewals open (Kilmore) but no VicRoads learner permit tests. DHHS self-service open (Kilmore). Miners rights purchases open (Kilmore). No photocopying, scanning, printing, public computer or wifi access. Contact us on 03 5734 6200 with any enquires you may have about our services. You can also do many things online including payments and lodging an enquiry via our Report It tool: www.mitchellshire.vic.gov.au/reportit
LibrariesOpen for book pick up (pre-orders only) and drop off (external return chute) at Broadford, Kilmore, Seymour and Wallan. Micro-library at Greater Beveridge closed. Browsing items is not permitted. You will need to place a hold on books, DVDs or magazines from your home (local) branch and then you’ll receive an email or SMS when it’s ready to collect. External return chutes open. No wifi or computer access. Online activities. No in person baby time, rhyme time or story time sessions. Planning to return for term 3.

Leisure services

Leisure centres (pools and gyms) and stadiumsGym and pool closed. Outdoor gym classes from 25 May (limited numbers, members opening) and online services continuing. Pools re-opening from 10 June for lap swimming and aqua classes (bookings essential). Follow Mitchell Shire Leisure Services Facebook page for news and online programs. Prepare indoor pools for re-opening early June subject to government health and physical distancing requirements being met. Working towards gyms re-opening for 22 June. Stadiums closed.

Outdoor spaces

Kerbside collectionsContinue to put your kerbside bin out as usual.
Resource recovery centresSeymour closed so landfill can operate for kerbside collections. Broadford (Mia Mia Road), open extended hours (10am-4pm, 6 days per week excluding Mondays). Pyalong and Wallan open normal hours. Extra precautions in place - stay in car to pay, cashless only, maintain safe distance, follow directions. Open for residents and local businesses only. Essential visits only. Hoping to re-open Seymour Resource Recovery Centre soon.
Rural collectionsIf you're in isolation and need a temporary rural collection service, please contact us on 5734 6200 to discuss options. Fees apply.
