Council services

Stage three restrictions are now in place in Mitchell Shire. While some of our face-to-face services are closed, rest assured, there are many other ways you can still access Council services.

Stage 3 restrictions

Stage 3 restrictions are now in place in Mitchell Shire.

During these restrictions you must remain at home except for these four reasons:

  • shopping for food and essential items
  • to provide care giving or to seek medical treatment
  • for exercise
  • to work or study, if you cannot work or study from home.

This also means:

  • you cannot have visitors to your home except for caregiving or compassionate reasons or receiving services
  • you can no longer visit friends and family who live at another household, except to see your intimate partner, or for caregiving or compassionate reasons, or providing services.

Many Council services and facilities will need to close or return to online and phone service delivery. For those that remain open, we may ask for photographic identification showing your address before you can enter. Please do not visit a Council service if:

  • you are unwell, even with only mild symptoms
  • OR someone in your household is unwell, even with only mild symptoms
  • OR you have received a positive COVID test and you have not been given the all clear
  • OR someone in your household or a direct contact has received a positive COVID test and you have been told to self-isolate.


Animal pound and dangerous and wandering animalsStray animals will still be collected. Procedures in place for payments and to ensure social distance between residents and staff.

Dog parkOpen. Maintain social distancing.

Building and planning services

Building and planningWallan service desk closed. Inspections and phone service still occurring. Online services available.

Children and Families

ImmunisationAll immunisations operating as usual with some extra social distancing measures in place.
KindergartensCouncil run kindergartens open for Term 3. For Greater Beveridge and Seymour kindergartens, please contact the providers directly: Greater Beveridge ( or 03 8545 9500); Seymour ( or 03 9450 0900).
Maternal and child healthTelehealth appointments and short face-to-face centre appointments for babies 8 weeks and under. First time parent groups will continue online. Breastfeeding clinics will be by appointment. Sleep and settling program via telehealth. Supported Playgroups online.
School crossingsOperating in line with school term.
Youth servicesOnline programming plus phone and online outreach.

Community Centres and Halls

Greater Beveridge Community CentreImmunisation services continuing at centre as well as some maternal and child health services. For Try Kindergartens please contact Try Australia or 03 8545 9500.
Hall and venue hireClosed.
Visitor information centreClosed.

Customer and Library Services

Customer service centresCustomer Service Centres closing at 5pm on Friday 17 July. Phone and online contact is still available. Contact us on 03 5734 6200 with any enquires you may have about our services. You can also do many things online including payments and lodging an enquiry via our Report It tool: No VicRoads or other agency services except for Centrelink self-serve kiosk terminal. If you have an enquiry that you feel can only be done face-to-face, please give us a call to discuss.
LibrariesClosed. Access to eResources (eBooks, eAudio and eMagazines) and online activities will continue.
Sharps containersCollection of new containers and drop off available at customer service centres.

Community sportIndoor sports centres including gyms, training facilities and pools will be closed.
Training and competitionCommunity sport training and competition cannot occur in Mitchell Shire. If you live in metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire you cannot participate in community sport elsewhere.
Outdoor sport facilitiesOutdoor sport facilities will be closed, except for facilities where people can exercise with no more than one other person (or members of their household) while maintaining 1.5 metres distance. Equipment should not be shared, and communal facilities cannot open.
Personal trainingPersonal training outdoors can occur but with a limit of two participants plus the instructor. Equipment should not be shared, and you need to maintain a 1.5 metre distance.

Youth Services

Youth servicesYouth room closed. Online and phone outreach continuing. Follow Mitchell Youth Services on Facebook for updates.

Waste Services

Kerbside collectionsNo change. Continue to put your kerbside bin out as usual.
Resource recovery centresOpen for residents only. Photo ID with address needed and will be checked. Essential waste only. Broadford (Mia Mia Road), open extended hours (10am-4pm, 6 days per week excluding Mondays). Pyalong, Seymour and Wallan open normal hours. Extra precautions in place - stay in your car to pay, cashless only, maintain a safe distance, follow directions.
Rural collectionsIf you're in isolation and need a temporary rural collection service, please contact us on 5734 6200 to discuss options. Fees apply.
