Community services

Many local sporting clubs, community groups and organisations couldn’t continue their good work without the support of volunteers. Our community leads the way, with over 20% of the population participating in volunteer activities (the Victorian average is 19%).

Volunteering Mitchell website update

Our dedicated volunteering site was created to link volunteering opportunities to local organisations. In 2020 Mitchell Shire Council has been granted support from the State Government of Victoria to upgrade the website. Improvements will include:

  • ability to search local volunteer organisations - not just those currently advertising a particular volunteer role
  • ability for all volunteer organisations to be represented on the site on an ongoing basis
  • free volunteer management software for volunteer organisations to ensure easy National Standards for Volunteer Inclusion compliance

Join the Volunteering Mitchell Support Network

Our Volunteering Mitchell Support Network works to ensure that volunteering is encouraged, supported and recognised.

It raises awareness of the importance of volunteering. It provides advice and feedback and promotes good management and development of volunteers by organisations that run volunteer programs.

The committee also supports members by sharing information and mentoring to build skills, knowledge, experience, resources and expertise.

Volunteer at Seymour Visitor Information Centre

If you are a ‘people person’ and enjoy sharing your knowledge of our region, you could join our group of passionate and friendly volunteers at the Seymour Visitor Information Centre.

We are looking to grow our team as we find our number of visitors is increasing daily. As a volunteer you will welcome new guests and assist with travel enquiries, while promoting Mitchell Shire.
