Host the Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony

Are you ready to host Australia Day in 2022?

Despite everything, we were proudly able to host our 2021 event in Wallan as Mitchell Shire came together to celebrate.

Now, it is time to do it all again.

We are now accepting Expressions of Interest from Community Groups and Organisations to host the Mitchell Shire Australia Day event alongside both the Community Awards 2022 and the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony 2022.

Events can only be considered if it is proposed to be on Council-owned or managed land and preferences will be given to locations and places that have not held an event recently. If you need any clarification, please contact us on the details below.

Nominations — 2022 Australia Day host

Applications to host the 2022 Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony are now open.

Complete your expression of interest form by 5pm Monday 5 July 2021.

Applications will be considered by Council at a future scheduled Council meeting.

Terms and conditions

All Expression of Interest applications lodged with Council will become documents available for public inspection in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989.

For all Australia Day events in Mitchell Shire, Council will, upon request, provide small Australian flags, buntings and copies of the program for the day.

The Mitchell Shire Council Awards and Citizenship Ceremony is a ‘stand-alone’ event administered by Mitchell Shire Council staff.

Council will organise the Awards and Citizenship Ceremony, including guest invitations, certificates, speakers and gifts for new citizens.

The host town is requested to provide a shade marquee, chairs, trestle tables and sound system.

A band/singer will be organised by Council. Council does not provide any financial assistance for this event, however, will cover the cost of hire for a shade marquee, chairs and trestle tables.

Events will only be considered if they are held on Council owned or managed land.

Preference will be given to locations that have not held an event recently.

A COVID-safe plan must be prepared by the event hosts.
