At the foot of the magnificent Tallarook Ranges, Tallarook is a picturesque country town and the starting point of the Great Victorian Rail Trail.
History and Heritage
The land was once central to the territories of the Goulburn Aboriginal tribes, in whose language, Tallarook means ‘call of the wattle birds’.
Today, you can see the St Josephs' Catholic Church and St Stephen's Anglican church. Both sites are located on Main Road and are of historical significance to the town.

Tallarook hosts an abundance of wildlife and farming properties. The small town offers country hospitality with a friendly general store, local hotel and café. Tallarook is the starting point of the Great Victorian Rail Trail. This well-renowned walking, cycling and horse-riding trail that extends for 134km through the picturesque Victorian countryside.
Be sure to visit the Tallarook Farmer's market, which is held on the first Sunday of every month (except January) and is a popular event for the township. The market provides delicious fresh and local produce in a relaxed country setting.
