Works continue in Mitchell
Mitchell Shire Council is still working through a number of important projects that will ensure safer connections throughout the community for both pedestrians and vehicles.
There are a number of exciting projects nearing completion on the horizon, with early 2021 set to be a busy time for Mitchell Shire’s roads.
O’Gradys works update
Safety at the intersection of O’Gradys Road and Kilmore East Road near the Kilmore East railway station and underpass will be greatly improved with works on a new turning lane, lighting and speed limit changes to finish in the New Year.
The important upgrade includes two new streetlights and a new ‘T-Intersection’ which will help drivers to move safely while entering or exiting onto O’Gradys Road in both directions.
Kilmore East Road was also lowered at the railway bridge providing a smoother and safer road surface which will benefit trucks, larger vehicles and improve drainage in heavy downpours and storms.
The State Government’s Fixing Country Roads program funded $975,000 of the intersection and lighting project. Council contributed $268,000 to these upgrades as well as $180,000 to lower the road.
Wellington Street works update
Works will continue along Wellington Street, Wallan, in the New Year with construction on the pavement to get underway.
The street is being transformed to support improved access for both vehicle and pedestrian movement throughout the heart of Wallan.
The $1,156,000 project, fully funded thanks to the State Government’s Regional Development Victoria (RDV) fund, is part of the Wellington Street Road Rehabilitation project.
New drainage, driveways, and footpaths have already been constructed. The completion of the project is expected to be completed by the end of February, weather permitting.
