Slam dunk for Wallan playspaces

Mitchell Shire Council representatives joined Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green to officially turn the sod on the $270,000 Wallan Playspace and Half Courts Provision project.

Planning for the future is in full swing in Mitchell Shire. The works will be conducted at both Botanical Avenue and Danaher Avenue Reserves, both in Wallan.

The work at Botanical Avenue Reserve include:

  • installation of a new multi-use basketball court area
  • landscape work.

The work at Danaher Avenue Reserve include:

  • upgrades to the play equipment
  • installation of a new half-court basketball area
  • removal of current play equipment
  • playspace area relocated to existing pathway to increase use and visibility.

The works will get underway and be ready for use in early 2020.

Council contributed $95,000 to the project. The Victorian Government funded $175,000 through the Growing Suburbs Fund.

The partnership between Council, Victorian Government and Federal Government continues to deliver for residents, ratepayers and visitors.

Quotes attributable to Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor David Lowe

“Once again Council and the Victorian Government have come together to ensure our community can get out and play. Whether it be pick up basketball games to young children simply enjoying the playground, these projects ensure we can cater to all people,” he said.

“Part of our job at Council is to plan for the exciting growth we are seeing right now. This is a big part of everyday life in Mitchell Shire and I would like to thank the Victorian Government for their assistance once more through the Growing Suburbs Fund.

“We want every community member to have a great quality of life and to be able to have fun and stay active.”
