Pool season opens to bumper crowds
Nearly 200 residents got out and into Mitchell Shire’s outdoor pools at the weekend as the sun shone on a picture-perfect opening day.
The Splash Park at the Community Bank ® Adventure Playground in Wallan also saw bumper crowds.
The outdoor pools were opened on Saturday as temperatures soared past the weather trigger of 26 degrees, allowing the scheduled season opener to go ahead as planned.
Due to cooler weather, the pools were closed until Wednesday 5 December when the mercury rose again.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor Bill Chisholm said the outdoor pools are a brilliant asset to the community.
“It was great to see so many people dive into the pools and enjoy their first day of summer. Right on cue, the sun came out and the temperatures rose to allow people in,” he said.
“I would like to thank the staff for their dedication to presenting the pools to the community. They worked tirelessly to open the gates. I would also like to thank the hardworking lifeguards who keep the water safe.
“I look forward to a great summer and an exciting outdoor pool season full of exciting activities with all of our partner groups and clubs.’
As the temperatures rise, residents will be able to enjoy each of the outdoor pools and splash park.
The pools will be opened on days when the air temperatures reach 26 degrees or more. A decision is made the day prior based off the Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast.
The splash park will operate during summer between 10am and 8pm. However, potentially dangerous weather conditions like extremely cold temperatures, storms or cold wind will force the closure of the Splash Park.
The splash park and pools will not operate on Christmas Day.
