New chapter for Broadford Library

Broadford Library is set for a $100,000 makeover later this year which will see an updated space for children’s activities and programs, more shelving, additional computers plus re-designed meeting and study spaces.

The refurbishment of Broadford Library is made possible thanks to $75,000 funding from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and $25,000 from Council.

The works will make the library a brighter, more inviting place ready to welcome Mitchell’s rapidly growing and diverse community.

The redesign of the Broadford Library will better support the provision of programs, activities, resources and services including:

  • Robotics and animation
  • Education-based programs including reading, writing and introduction to technology
  • Additional computers and re-designed study spaces
  • Spaces for groups to come together or for study purposes

Mitchell Shire Council’s Library Service has about 15,000 members, with this number likely to grow as the population does.

The redeveloped spaces will enable expansion of programs at the library, specifically targeted towards disconnected, disengaged and socially isolated members of the community.

Comments from Mayor Cr Rhonda Sanderson

“Through this project, we will provide an upgraded library space which is more welcoming, more functional and encourages more people to visit to enjoy our children’s and education-based programs, or to study," she said.

“Our libraries are great places to meet people and enjoy activities you may not otherwise be able to access."

“We have a range of activities, programs, resources and spaces to suit many different needs at our libraries and customer service centres. Libraries are so much more than just places to borrow books, their learning hubs offering children’s and educational programs, meetings spaces, author talks and special events."
