National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is from 27 May to 3 June. We acknowledge that Mitchell Shire is on Wurundjeri and Taungurung Country. We would like to acknowledge and extend our appreciation to the Taungurung people and Wurundjeri people, the Traditional Owners of Mitchell Shire, and to residents from other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nations and Communities.

The dates for NRW are the same each year. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision.

We express our gratitude in the sharing of this land, our sorrow for the personal, spiritual and cultural costs of that sharing and hope that we may walk forward together in harmony and in the spirit of healing.

This year as part of National Reconciliation Week, we are putting out a challenge to all Australians (including individuals, families, communities, organisations and government) to Be Brave and Make Change in helping the country take greater steps towards complete National Reconciliation.
