Language Other Than English collection launched in Wallan

Residents now have access to a brand-new Language Other Than English (LOTE) collection at the Wallan Customer and Library Service Centre.

Mitchell Shire Council launched the collection recently to help community members get back into reading.

The languages available as part of the service are:

  • Arabic
  • Chinese
  • Hindi
  • Punjabi

Our community is multicultural and programs like these are aimed at people who want to get back into reading.

Our libraries change lives every single day and the LOTE program is part of an ever-growing network of resources at our library services.

Libraries deliver essential services to residents, students and visitors, allowing people to use the internet, work on school projects and offer a safe space for people to relax.

Other programs include robotics classes, school holiday activities, baby bookworms, toddler read and rhyme time, and story time. There is also a co-working space at Kilmore Library every Friday.

Quotes attributable to Mitchell Shire Council Mayor Councillor Bill Chisholm

“Offering a LOTE collection is a wonderful initiative from our library services and will help community members greatly,” he said.

“We live in a diverse, growing community so these kinds of initiatives are crucial to the growing-resources we have in Mitchell Shire. Libraries change lives and through innovative programs like this, we have plenty of options for everybody.”
