Help get dumped trolleys off our streets and collected quickly
Mitchell Shire residents can now report dumped shopping trolleys online or via an app and they will be collected within 12 hours.
Council has partnered with Trolley Tracker, a service allowing people to easily report stray trolleys, and even win prizes for doing so.
If you spot an abandoned shopping trolley, simply report it and it will be collected by Trolley Tracker and returned to its rightful supermarket within 12 hours.
Under the Trolley Tracker system, supermarkets pay Trolley Tracker when trolleys are returned.
Council will also continue impounding dumped trolleys, with infringements issued to supermarkets if they don’t collect them.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said the service would complement the work already being done by Council and supermarkets to reduce the amount of dumped trolleys.
“We take great pride in the appearance of our community and it’s such a shame when that it spoiled by dumped trolleys and other rubbish,” Cr Sanderson said.
“Dumped trolleys are a blight on our community and they can have serious safety and environmental impacts.
“By using the Trolley Tracker system, we will be able to get these trolleys off our streets and out of our parks and waterways quickly.
“It will also save valuable time, money and resources and will free up Council’s Local Laws team to focus on other priorities.”
By reporting a trolley, residents can go into the draw to win one of five monthly $1000 prizes (terms and conditions apply, see Trolley Tracker website for details).
