Help fellow seniors keep up to date with the latest news
If you’re a word wizard who’s passionate about promoting positive ageing in your community, Mitchell Shire Council wants to hear from you.
Mitchell’s Positive Ageing Ambassadors are looking for seniors to contribute content and help distribute Council’s Seniors’ Newsletter.
The newsletter is currently issued bi-monthly and includes information on upcoming events, Council services, seniors’ profiles and recipes, among other things.
At least two volunteers are needed to cover the north of the shire (distribution in Broadford and Seymour) and the south of the shire (distribution in Wallan and Kilmore).
Volunteers will also be tasked with finding and developing fresh, creative and engaging content for the newsletter and increasing online subscriptions.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said Council and the Positive Ageing Ambassadors were working hard in the positive ageing space and the Seniors’ Newsletter was a major part of that.
“Our Seniors’ Newsletter complements the work being done by Council and our Positive Ageing Ambassadors in partnering with our senior residents to ensure we are promoting and providing an age-friendly community,” Cr Sanderson said.
“Last year we conducted an Age-Friendly Community Survey and one of the key things our seniors wanted improved was communication and information.
“The Seniors’ Newsletter is a really valuable publication for seniors to find out about events happening around town and Council services.
“We’re really looking to grow this newsletter and we’re really open to what content is included, based on what our residents would like to read. If you’ve got the time and some fresh ideas, we’d love to hear from you.”
The volunteer roles will require approximately three hours on a bi-monthly basis for collecting, sorting and delivering the newsletters, plus another hour for developing interesting content and growing online subscriptions.
Those interested must have a Working With Children Check, driver licence and their own vehicle.
