Gym upgrades

5 January 2018

Lacking inspiration to shed a few kilos or get fit? Getting in shape is about to become a whole lot more appealing with new state-of-the-art gym equipment and upgrades at Mitchell Shire’s leisure centres.

During January, Kilmore Leisure Centre and Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre will be refurbished and fitted out with fresh equipment such as spin bikes, resistance machines and cardio equipment including treadmills, step mills, adaptive motion trainers and recumbent and upright bikes with Spotify and Netflix.

In order to make the exciting changes, both facilities will need to close for a short period. The gym and group fitness studios will be closed at Kilmore Leisure Centre from Friday 12 January to Sunday 21 January and Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre from Monday 15 January to Sunday 21 January.

During the closures, all health club members will have their payments stopped.

To help our members keep active during the closure, free outdoor fitness classes will be held at Hudson Park in Kilmore and Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool.

Meanwhile, the indoor pools at both centres will be open as usual during the closure, with several aqua aerobic classes on offer for free for health club members.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said it was an exciting time for not only current leisure centre members, but for those who join in the future.

“These upgrades will really modernise both facilities and will ensure our gym members, both now and into the future, have access to some state-of-the-art equipment,” Cr Sanderson said.

“Although there may be some inconvenience to gym users while the upgrades take place, once completed our members will have access to some fantastic new facilities that will help them improve or maintain their health and wellbeing.

“We appreciate our members’ patience while these works are undertaken and we’d encourage them to make use of the range of free classes on offer during the closure.”

To celebrate and launch the new facilities, an open day will be held at both centres from 8am to 1pm on Saturday 3 February.

The events will include free fitness classes, challenges, free body composition scans and membership offers.
