Funding support for important projects across Mitchell Shire

Mitchell Shire Council has received much-needed funding support from the Victorian Government which will deliver several important projects across the municipality.

2022/23 Growing Suburbs Fund

Wandong Community Centre Redevelopment

This project will unlock and reactivate the Wandong Community Centre at LB Davern Reserve into a modern, welcoming and accessible community asset.

It aims to revitalise the Centre to contemporary standards by reconfiguring and upgrading the internal floor plan to create a versatile, multi-purpose centre for shared community use.

Total budget: $800,000

Grant contribution: $720,000

Council contribution: $60,000

Wandong and Heathcote Junction Sports and Community Committee of Management contribution: $20,000

Anticipated completion: November 2023

Kilmore Senior Citizens Centre Redevelopment and Accessibility Upgrade

This project will address significant accessibility, safety, and programming space issues at the Kilmore Senior Citizens Centre.

The redevelopment project will unlock this valuable piece of community infrastructure to provide a modern and accessible community asset to promote and support inter-generational and shared use activity within the Kilmore community.

Total budget: $900,000

Grant contribution: $830,000

Council contribution: $70,000

Anticipated completion: November 2023

Kings Park Playspace Upgrade

This project will deliver a play space upgrade at Kings Park Reserve in Seymour and help with flood recovery.

The new contemporary play space will offer improved value and shade for park users.

Kings Park is a key site in Seymour’s open space network and this upgrade will help further enhance its appeal and functionality to the wider community.

Total budget: $220,000

Grant contribution: $200,000

Council contribution: $20,000

Anticipated completion: Subject to flood impacts at Kings Park

2022 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund

Pyalong Netball Tennis Courts and Lighting Upgrade

A reconstruction of the outdoor sports courts will be undertaken at Pyalong Recreation Reserve.

Two dual purpose netball tennis courts with competition standard lighting and a warm up area will be delivered as part of this project

This project will optimise participation and scheduling opportunities for sporting clubs – particularly girls and women

Total budget: $750,000

Grant contribution: $500,000

Council contribution: $250,000

Anticipated completion: April 2023

Wallan Tennis Complex – Enclosure 1 Courts Upgrade

This project will replace the existing synthetic surface, base works and drainage improvements for the 4 tennis courts within enclosure 1.

The project will increase participation and scheduling opportunities for the only tennis facility in Wallan.

Total budget: $300,000

Grant contribution: $225,000

Council contribution: $75,000

Anticipated completion: April 2023

Tallarook Outdoor Pool Slide

A new safe and compliant slide will be installed at Tallarook Outdoor Pool and is expected to increase usage of the pool.

The slide was not accessible in the 2021/22 season due to safety concerns, which resulted in a decrease in attendance at the pool.

Total budget: $100,000

Grant contribution: $26,250

Council contribution: $73,750

Anticipated completion: November 2023

Broadford Baseball Lighting Upgrade

A training standard lighting upgrade will be delivered for the only baseball club within Mitchell Shire.

This project will greatly assist scheduling and participation opportunities during winter season, in particular for both male and female teams

Total budget: $350,000

Grant contribution: $250,000

Council contribution: $100,000

Anticipated completion: April 2023
