Friendly reminder animal registrations are due soon

Cat and dog owners in Mitchell Shire are reminded animal registration renewals are due on Tuesday 10 April.

Registration renewals have been sent out and need to be paid by Tuesday 10 April. People with unregistered animals are also encouraged to register their pets by this date.

Registering your dog or cat in Mitchell Shire is affordable, with standard de-sexed dogs $31 and a de-sexed cat $21 (including a $4 State Government levy for each cat and dog). Discounts are also available for obedience-trained animals and pensioners (conditions apply).

Animal registrations are important as they help Council fund activities such as lost and found animal services, investigation of animal attacks and nuisance animals, an after-hours service and responsible pet ownership education programs.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said there had been a slight delay in issuing the renewals this year, but they should have started arriving in letterboxes.

“We understand people are busy, especially at this time of year with Easter and school holidays, and it can be easy for a bill to slip your mind,” Cr Sanderson said.

“Animal registrations are a key part of being a responsible pet owner and we thank those who have already paid their animal registration renewals.”

Every dog and cat over three months is required to be registered with Council. To be registered, all animals must be microchipped.

Under the Domestic Animal Act, those who do not register their animals can face fines of $311.

If you have not yet received your animal registration renewal notice or need to make any changes to it, including if you no longer own that pet, please contact Council as soon as possible on 5734 6200.

To register a new animal or check animal registration costs, visit the Domestic animals fees and charges page or visit a Customer and Library Service Centre.
