Stand for Council

Have you ever thought about making a Stand for Council?

Local Government elections take place on 24 October, and with COVID-19 impacting candidates’ ability to meet community members face-to-face campaigning will be different.

The Stand for Council Workshop aims to ensure potential Councillor candidates are equipped with all the information they need to decide on a role in Local Government.

The Stand for Council Community and Candidate Information workshop will cover:

  • the role and purpose of Local Government
  • the new Local Government Act 2020
  • introduction to your Council and information on the municipal area
  • roles, responsibilities and expectations of a Councillor
  • the experience of being a Councillor

Potential candidates must undertake Mandatory Candidate Training Sessions run by the State Government.

Comments from Acting CEO Mary Agostino

“Being a Councillor is a wonderful way to support and shape our shire,” she said. It is a rewarding job for many who choose to run.

Mitchell Shire is a wonderful place full of amazing people from all different walks of life. We will continue to work towards creating a healthy, sustainable community as our population continues to grow.

If you’ve ever thought about joining us on this journey, now is the time to find out more.”
