Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony

On Sunday 26 January Mitchell Shire held our annual Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony in Pyalong Community Gardens in collaboration with Pyalong Neighbourhood House.

Mitchell Shire warmly welcomed 38 new citizens in 2020 which saw a record number of people become Australian citizens. Across the nation there were more than 27,400 people from over 160 nations and attended one of 450 citizenship ceremonies on Australia Day that became Australians.

“We arrived three years ago and now we are here today to receive our citizenship. It is absolutely brilliant – the ceremony itself was amazing. Doing it with my wife and daughter today was special – we could not be happier”
James Phaff Puckapunyal

The ceremonies are an important part of our national day and hold special significance for our new citizens and our community as a whole. You can view some photo’s of the day on our photo gallery.

Quotes attributable to Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor David Lowe
