Prepare your property and fire plan now before the fire season heats up

With a predicted ‘above normal’ fire season expected this summer, Mitchell Shire residents are urged to prepare their properties and bushfire survival plans. The reminder is part of the Victorian Government's annual Fire Action Week, which has been brought forward to 13-20 October due to the Bureau of Meteorology’s outlook for dry and warm conditions with little long-term rainfall.

Changes to the Bushfire Management Overlay

The Victorian Government has recently reviewed the mapping for the Bushfire Management Overlay (BMO). The overlay now applies to more properties in Mitchell Shire and means planning permits may be required for new uses and developments and for some extensions. The Victorian Government has written to affected property owners.
