Major boost for kindergarten and maternal and child health services in Broadford

A $420,000 upgrade creating a shared kindergarten and maternal and child health space at Mt Piper Kindergarten in Broadford has been completed.

The upgrade was officially opened by Mitchell Shire Council Mayor Rhonda Sanderson and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes on Friday.

It includes two new maternal and child health consulting rooms and a shared entry and open space for both new parents and kindergarten families.

The project was jointly funded by the Department of Education and Training ($350,000) and Mitchell Shire Council ($70,000).

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said the exciting new facilities would allow maternal and child health staff and kinder staff to work closer together with the families of children aged 0 to five.

“Our families and children in Broadford and the surrounding areas deserve a modern and bright hub like this which will enhance integration for health, early learning, social support and engagement,” Cr Sanderson said.

“This upgrade will also help cater for the significant growth that is expected in our municipality over the coming years, especially with the amount of young families who are deciding to call Mitchell Shire home.

“Planning and managing population growth is challenging, but it is also very rewarding when you see facilities like this come to fruition.

“We couldn’t have done it alone and we sincerely thank the Victorian Government and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes for helping make this project a reality.”
