Christmas has come early for young people in Mitchell Shire, with Council hosting a special party to welcome in the festive season.
A free Christmas party will be held from 3.30pm-5pm at the Broadford Youth Room on Tuesday 12 December and the Wallan Youth Room on Thursday 14 December.
The parties will include food, games and plenty of fun to get into the Christmas spirit.
On the same day, young people can create their own decorations to take home and hang on their Christmas trees.
Meanwhile, Council has the school holidays sorted, with summer grab bags now on sale (while stocks last) from the youth rooms and Customer and Library Service Centres.
The $15 bags, for ages 10-18, contain over $100 worth of goodies including a Reading Cinema movie ticket, Challenge Laser Skirmish entry, OZ Tenpin Bowling tickets, a Mitchell Leisure Centre pass and more.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said the youth room Christmas parties would be a great way to finish off the year.
“Council’s youth rooms are so popular and all the children who have visited throughout the year have had a blast with the wide range of activities that have been on offer – there has been everything from hip hop dancing classes and movie marathons to street art sessions and mental health workshops,” Cr Sanderson said.
“The Christmas parties and decoration workshops will be a great way to cap off a fantastic year and will really get everyone into the Christmas spirit.
“Council would like to thank everyone who attended the youth rooms this year and for making them the fun and inclusive spaces that they are. A big thanks must also go to Council’s dedicated youth development team who pull these events together so well.”
Mitchell Youth Council Mayor Audrey Flannery said the youth rooms had grown in popularity.
“The youth rooms are such fantastic and safe places for young people to hang out after school, and the number of children that use the service reflect that,” she said.
The youth rooms will be closed over the Christmas and New Year period from Tuesday 12 December (Broadford) and Thursday 14 December (Wallan). Both centres will re-open on Monday 29 January 2018.
