A free wallet-sized card is helping Mitchell Shire’s young people quickly reference vital services, as well as bag some local bargains.
The 2017 Youth Card is now available for Mitchell Shire residents aged 10-24.
The card details contact information for a number of vital services – everything from transport and employment agencies, to mental health and drug/alcohol support services.
The card also offers some great discounts at local businesses including Mitchell Leisure Centres, Wallan Subway, Victory Fresh Fruit & Vegetables (Broadford), Kilmore Pizza House and Dundee’s Fish ‘n Chips (Wandong).
Mitchell Shire Youth Mayor Audrey Flannery encouraged young people to pick up a card.
"You may not realise just how many services there are out there to help young people in our Shire," Audrey said.
"The Youth Card is so handy because it lists all the contact details for these services right there in the one place."
Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said with the region’s younger population growing, it was important they had easy access to helpful services.
“The 2016 Census shows there are almost 14,000 people living in Mitchell Shire that are under the age of 24 – that’s almost a third of our population,” Cr Sanderson said.
“It’s really important our young people are aware of the many services on offer in the region which they can readily access in their day-to-day lives – and that’s the great thing about the Youth Card, all the information is there in the one place.”
The discounts on the cards can be used more than once and are valid until 30 June 2018.
Youth Cards can be collected from Broadford and Wallan Youth Rooms, Mitchell Shire Council Customer and Library Services Centres, Mitchel Shire police stations, The Bridge Seymour, Beyond Housing Seymour, Family Care Wallan, Nexus Primary Health, Go Tafe Seymour, Seymour College,
Assumption College, Kilmore International School and Wallan Secondary School.
