The finishing touches are being put on an upgrade to Queen Street in Wallan this week.
Works on the road, between the Northern Highway and Windham Street, began in late January.
The upgrade includes kerb and channel works, underground drainage, formalised parking, a traffic island and pedestrian safety improvements.
The project was jointly funded by Mitchell Shire Council and the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program.
The completed works will improve safety, drainage and the appearance of the busy street which provides access to the popular Community Bank ® Adventure Playground, Hadfield Park and local businesses.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson thanked the community for their patience while the project was completed.
“Queen Street is an important thoroughfare linking the Wallan town centre to wonderful community assets such as Hadfield Park and the Wallan Multi-Purpose Centre,” Cr Sanderson said.
“But it was a stretch of road in dire need of an upgrade to improve safety and visual appeal, especially given the growth that Wallan has, and will continue, to see.
“I would like to thank the community for their patience while these works were undertaken.
“This project was completed on time and within budget and I’d also like to thank Council staff and the contractor for their achievements, which will benefit the community for years to come.
“Mitchell Shire Council continues to be committed to working hard in lobbying the State and Federal Governments to secure more funding like this for other important road projects in our shire.”
The Queen Street upgrade is one of many major projects funded and delivered in the area recently including the Community Bank ® Adventure Playground and the Wallan Family and Children’s Centre.
