Your chance to say thank you to Mitchell Shire’s wonderful volunteers

7 April 2017

Mitchell Shire Council is hosting two volunteer thank you nights to celebrate the thousands of people who give up their time to make our community a better place, and you’re all invited.

Part of National Volunteer Week, the events will be held in Seymour on Wednesday 10 May and Kilmore on Friday 12 May, both from 6-8.30pm.

There are more than 100 not-for-profit organisations and community groups with volunteers in Mitchell Shire, ranging from emergency services and sporting clubs to health services and animal welfare groups.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said 21 per cent of people in the Shire volunteered, compared with the Victorian average of 19 per cent.

“Volunteers play a vital role in the Mitchell community and it is important they feel valued, acknowledged and supported,” Cr Sanderson said.

“These thank you events are a chance to publicly acknowledge our dedicated and passionate volunteers who work so hard to strengthen the community in which we live.

“I encourage our community to get along and celebrate the contributions of our volunteers and to network with likeminded individuals.”

Mitchell Shire Council is committed to supporting the development of volunteering across the Shire, including operating a free volunteer website www.volunteeringmitchell.com.au. The online platform is a one-stop-shop for volunteering and allows community members and organisations to find and advertise volunteer roles.

Council is also working with our Volunteer Advisory Committee to develop and implement a new Volunteer Framework. We also work closely with many volunteers across the Shire including several Committees of Management and most recently our Positive Ageing Ambassadors.

National Volunteer Week is from 8-14 May.

RSVPs to the volunteer thank you nights are essential and can be made HERE by Wednesday 3 May. Finger food and refreshments will be provided.
