Federal election campaign FAQs
We've prepared some FAQs about the mental health and freeway campaigns.
We have many advocacy priorities that have been developed based on community input. We continue to raise these at every opportunity at a State and Federal level.
For the Federal election, we needed to focus our ask on priorities that are:
- Federal government responsibilities
- impacting our whole shire
- Urgent and time critical need for Federal support
- Ready to activate quickly if funding is received
The business case for the interchange at Wallan is complete and construction is ready to progress to the next stage. With a quarry due to begin operating in the area soon and traffic already banking up on to the Hume Freeway, we need the interchange now.
The Federal Government is responsible for providing some funding towards the project. The State Government is responsible for the remainder of the funding and construction as well as the other related projects along Watson Street and the Northern Highway.
Mental health services
We have received state funding to develop a youth services hub in Wallan. We now need Federal funding for mental health services to operate from the hub and to support other mental health services across the municipality.
The Federal Government is responsible for providing operational funding to service providers for mental health support services.
Constructing the Hume Freeway full diamond interchange at Wallan is a joint responsibility of the Federal and State Government. VicRoads has completed a business case for the project which also includes duplication of Watson Street and capacity expansion for the Northern Highway.
We've gathered email addresses for as many candidates as we can find.
As new candidates are announced, we'll add their details in. They will receive emails directly after that date.
If we don't receive a funding commitment, we'll keep going with the campaigns after the Federal election.
