The Mitchell Shire Council is represented by nine Councillors to serve the local community. Mitchell is divided into three wards – North, Central and South– with each ward represented by three Councillors.
Mitchell's Mayor is elected annually (usually by end of November) by his/her fellow Councillors.
In May 2013, Mitchell's Councillors adopted the Councillors' Code of Conduct. The code sets out how Councillors will carry out their duties with integrity and impartially exercise their responsibilities in the interests of the local community.
