Tourism

The Mitchell Shire Economic Development Department works to enhance existing tourism businesses, attractions and events within the region and encourage new tourism projects and initiatives that will highlight the towns of Mitchell Shire as tourist destinations.

The Economic Development Department encourages development of tourism infrastructure in the region; liaises with local tourism operators regarding the development of tourism in the region and promotional marketing activities; manages Visitor Information Centres in Kilmore and Seymour and assists with the development of festivals and events in the Shire.

The Department is also involved in cooperative marketing activities with local tourism operators and uses regional and state networks and resources to effectively promote the region eg Goulburn River Valley Tourism.

The Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail  

The Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail was officially opened on Friday 1 June, 2012. The Trail is Victoria's longest rail trail spaning some 134km from Tallarook through Yea to Mansfield, with a link between Cathkin and Alexandra.

Goulburn River Valley Tourism 

The Goulburn River Valley Tourism (GRVT) region encompasses Greater Shepparton, Mitchell, Murrindindi and Strathbogie Shires.
It is an initiative of the local Councils to encourage a cooperative approach to grow the economic return from tourism through tourism development, skills training, product development and marketing.


Seymour Military Heritage Weekend  

Together with local and regional community groups, individuals and businesses, Mitchell Shire Council is proud to announce the second annual Seymour Military Heritage Weekend to be held over the 2013 Labour Day weekend: Saturday 9 March and Sunday 10 March 2013.

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk

Is a new development in High St Seymour which commemorates the 60,000 men and women who served during the 14 years of the Vietnam War and gives valuable insight into this tumultuous time in Australia's history.
