Transfer your waste at Mitchell's Resource Recovery Centres

Resource Recovery Centres (Waste Transfer Stations)

Council operates four waste transfer stations within the municipality:

Tipping vouchers are available from the Resource Recovery Centre, however if you purchase at the site, the charges are double what you would pay at an outlet. This is to reduce the risk to the operator at the centre having cash at the site.

Tipping vouchers can be purchased from approved Waste Transfer Tipping Voucher Outlets.

The following items and materials cannot be disposed of at Resource Recovery Centres:

  • Soluble chemical wastes
  • Hazardous or liquid wastes
  • Waste specified by EPA regulation
  • Asbestos products
  • Flammable materials
  • Commercial waste loads
  • Concrete or bricks over 1 tonne
  • Car bodies

Properly sorted recyclables, e-Waste (TVs, computers etc), containers of motor oil, car batteries and white goods (appliances) can be disposed of free of charge.

Residents can now recycle their fluorescent lighting products at Mitchell Shire Council Transfer Stations. Funded by the Victorian Coalition Government's $5M Driving Investment for New Recycling (DINR) initiative, Fluoro Collect allows the safe disposal and recycling of all types of fluorescent lighting.

For more information regarding the types of waste materials that will be accepted at a Resource Recovery Centre, please contact Council on (03) 5734 6200.

E-waste is unwanted electronic goods like computers, televisions and DVD players. Some materials contained in e-waste are toxic to our environment, containing high levels of lead and mercury.

By recycling your e-waste, 98% of the materials are recovered and recycled to be used in the manufacturing of new products.

E-waste may be brought to any of Council's Resource Recovery Centres for recycling.

Green waste and purchase of mulch

Green waste consists of tree trimmings, bushes and other garden waste that may be disposed of at the majority of Council’s resource recovery centres.

Garden waste must be free from contamination such as garbage, wire, metals, etc.
Collected garden waste is stored at the relevant sites and ground into a coarse mulch that is available for sale to the public

Purchase mulched green waste from $2.00 - $10 per cubic metre.

By separating green waste from rubbish around 25% of waste to landfill is reduced.

DrumMUSTER Collection

DrumMUSTER is the National Program for collection and recycling of clean, empty farm chemical containers.
Chemical users pay 4 cents per litre or kilogram levy on eligible products sold in non-returnable containers.

Containers are identified by a logo (sticker, label or embossed), which shows they are eligible for recycling through drumMUSTER.

Farmers are given a receipt when delivering containers.

Quality Assurance Programs and Environmental Management Systems accept these receipts as evidence of responsible waste disposal.

All containers accepted by drumMUSTER are recycled into products such as wheelie bins, roadside posts, irrigation pipes, vineyard posts and outdoor furniture.

DrumMUSTER is an initiative of the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA), the National Farmers Federation (NFF), Avcare (the National Association of Crop Production and Animal Health) and the Veterinary Manufacturers and Distributors Association (VMDA) to provide farmers with an environmentally responsible way of disposing of their empty chemical containers.

Burning chemical containers or burying them on farm or in Council Landfills is illegal and incurs substantial criminal penalties, including fines of up to $500,000.

Mitchell Shire Council has a permanent DrumMUSTER location at the Seymour Transfer Station.
