| Draft Disability Action Plan released for comment | | Mitchell Shire Council is ensuring that all people have an equal opportunity to participate in community life, with the release of the draft Disability Action Plan for community feedback.
The Plan was developed following a consultative survey with Mitchell Shire Council staff and from information provided through the Access and Inclusion Committee. The committee acts as a Disability Advisory Committee, providing advice to Council on issues including planning, communication, parking/signage, and accessibility at events, council buildings and general infrastructure.
Through the consultative survey, staff identified that an enhanced level of service for people with disabilities could be achieved through continued training in communicating with people with a disability, the ongoing refurbishment of older buildings to ensure better physical access and continued works on footpaths, public toilets and parks.
The draft Disability Action Plan is on display for a period of 28 days and can be viewed at each of the libraries / customer service centres located in Seymour, Kilmore, Broadford and Wallan. The draft is also available on Council’s website www.mitchellshire.vic.gov.au Written submissions must be received by Mitchell Shire Council no later than 4pm Monday 2 November 2009
