Mitchell Shire Council has undertaken works to improve pedestrian safety between the town centre and south east Broadford on Hamilton Street by constructing a pedestrian refuge. Pedestrian refuges function as a safety area half way between crossing points at pedestrian crossings.

Mitchell Shire Council, in partnership with all Mitchell Shire veterinarians, are trialling the new Feline Fix Program in an effort to neuter cats from Wednesday1 May until Friday 14 June 2013.
The Feline Fix Program can assist pet owners to save up to $115 on cat desexing and registration fees.

Pet Registration Discounts to Cease - Tuesday 2 April 2013
As a result of recent changes to the Domestic Animals Act 1994, a new fee schedule for pet registration is due to come into force across Victoria on Thursday 11 April 2013. As part of these changes, pet owners will no longer receive a discount on their registration for having their animal microchipped.
Council Required to Pay Defined Benefit Shortfall - Tuesday 2 April 2013
In 2012 Vision Super declared a shortfall of money in its now closed defined benefits superannuation scheme, which was in excess of $450m. All Victorian Councils are a member of the super scheme and are legally required to pay their share of the shortfall.
Mitchell Shire Council's Social Development and Wellbeing Department will be hosting a Risk Management Workshop for community groups. The workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to learn how to incorporate basic risk management practices in their event planning.

Animal Registration Deadline Extended - Friday 5 April 2013
Mitchell Shire Council's Local Laws Department would like to inform pet owners that the deadline for animal registration has been extended until Tuesday 30 April 2013. The new deadline will provide pet owners with an extra twenty days in which to make payment for their animal registration fees.

Organic Waste Trial in Wallan - Thursday 28 March 2013
Mitchell Shire Council will be conducting an organics waste trial in Wallan to investigate alternative ways of collecting and managing residential organic waste. Running from Friday 5 April 2013 until Friday 21 June 2013 and involving over 550 residences, the trial will provide participants with a third kerbside collection bin for organics.
