Environment

From the orchids of Old Sydney Road, Wallan to the magnificent River Red Gums of the Goulburn River, Mitchell Shire has valuable natural resources that must be protected now and into the future, so they can be enjoyed by future generations.

The geography of the Mitchell Region affords the area an abundance of environmental resources including a diverse range of flora and fauna, as well as waterways and bushland areas.

Mitchell Shire Council is committed to protecting these natural resources and Council's Environmental Programs Department is responsible for the administration of various programs, projects and schemes to ensure best management of these resources:

  • Land Management Rebate Scheme
  • Conservation Covenant Grant Program
  • Undertaking weed control and revegetation projects
  • Stormwater quality, water and energy efficiency programs
  • Assisting with the management of Council's bushland reserves
  • Liaising with community groups on land management issues
  • Overseeing the implementation of Council's Sustainable Resource Use Strategy.

The Environmental Programs Department is also available to provide advice to other departments within Council as well as to community members and groups.
