Recreation Areas

Parks and Reserves

The Mitchell Shire Region proudly maintains an abundance of parkland and forest areas. Council is committed to maintaining public areas that can be used by the community to enjoy the greatest benefit from these natural wonders.

Major environmental reserves within the Shire include the Australian Light Horse Park and the Bushland Park Reserve, both located in Seymour.

The Council's Recreation and Leisure Department is responsible for the maintenance and management of 11 recreation and sporting reserves; approximately 40 local parks and reserves and 10 public halls within the Shire.

Recreation and Open Space Strategy

The Mitchell Shire Council's Recreation and Open Space Strategy 2005 identifies priorities and provides strategic directions for the provision of recreational and leisure services in the short, medium and long term.

The planning framework ensures delivery of quality environments and recreation, leisure and sporting services that meet the needs identified by the Mitchell Shire community.

The Mitchell Shire Council's Recreation and Open Space Strategy 2005 is currently being reviewed and it is anticipated that the Draft Strategy Review will be produced late 2012.
