Youth of Mitchell
The definition of young people is those aged between 12 and 25 years. The 2006 census indicated that 29.4% of the population of Mitchell Shire was aged between 0 and 17 years. It is estimated that there are currently over 6100 young people living in Mitchell Shire. The youth population is forecast to increase substantially in the next ten years, particularly in the south of the shire, in areas such as Wallan and Beveridge.

The Role of Mitchell Shire Council Youth Development Unit
• Develop, implement and maintain projects, programs and activities with young people to assist them in developing important life skills.
• Showcase youth talent through youth lead events and activities such as Battle of the Bands and Mitchell Youth Theatre and Entertainment.

• Provide support, advocacy and resources to enable an increasing number of young people and groups to play an active role in community planning and decision making.
