Responsibility for local roads within the Mitchell Shire rests with the Mitchell Shire Council, while VicRoads has responsibility for main roads, freeways and highways.

Other infrastructure that Council is responsible for building and maintaining includes: footpaths, kerb and channel, drainage, streets and bridges.

The cost of building streets, roads and bridges is covered, in part, by rates, grants, other funding, Council contribution and special charge schemes.
