Building permits are required for all new buildings, extensions, carports, garages, solid fuel heaters and swimming pools, however, there are exceptions to this which must be discussed with the Building Unit prior to any work being undertaken.

The Council provides a building permit and inspection service for domestic and commercial building projects within the Mitchell Shire.

Inspections must be booked 24 hours in advance.

Please contact the Building Unit on 5734 6200 to book an inspection. We also offer an inspection service for relocated dwellings.

A completed application form for a building permit, along with appropriate plans, a copy of title and appropriate fees must be returned to Council for approval prior to any building work being undertaken.
